journal 8 skyler siles

One major thing that I would like to take away from this book is the remembrances of this horrific event. Many people do not like history, but I truly believe that we should all study history, and to learn history and the good and bad things that this world has experienced so that way we may learn and so that we may not repeat those horrific things like Hiroshima.
1.
The two characters that have interested me the most is Mrs.Nakamura and Ms. Sasaki.
Mrs.Nakamuras situation with being poor and then losing her husband in the war, and then having the bomb dropped adding to it. I truly do respect the fact that she was still so motherly and providing and making sure her children were taken care of. The fact that she turned out okay given her situation is amazing to me.  Ms. Sasaki story is so sad. Having lived through the bombing but being deformed from the devastation that it caused, then in society where you would think would be sympathetic for her especially that they experienced the bomb as well but rather than that she is shunned and discriminated is terrible.
2.
The reaction that I would like to remember is not only the mass destruction and panic and confusion that came from the bomb, but when the radioactivity that came from the bomb that caused the plants and greenery to become super active and the plants and ect came up after, it for me symbolized that in such tragedy, humans and people can find good and the best in people come out as well.
3.      1) "They died in silence, with no grudge, setting their teeth to bear it. All for the country!"
2)" The lives of these six people, who were among the luckiest in Hiroshima, would never be the same."
3) "It began to rain. Mrs. Nakamura kept her children under the umbrella. The drops grew abnormally large, and someone shouted, "The Americans are dropping gasoline. They're going to set fire to us!"
I choose to remember these quotes because I think they describe really the feeling and the effects of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. How they were scared that they thought the Americans were dropping gasoline so they can all burn, and how death just overcame this city in a matter of moments and that none of these people’s lives would ever be the same.

4.
Like I said in the begging, the thing that one can take away from this book is the historical knowledge now about Hiroshima and a part of history. With this we can hopefully learn to not to repeat this kind of horrendous event again and another thing maybe we can learn is not just the physical but the emotional and physical effect of these kind of events and maybe how we can help those in similar situations.
